Isaiah Firebrace - Don't come easy - ESC 2017 Australia / Song Review

Don't come easy - Is Isaiah on the same way like Dami Im?

From X-Factor to Eurovision with only 17 years:

SBS has done it again and announced the Australian artist by an internal selection and again a successfull X-Factor participant will represent "Down Under" at Eurovision.
The 17-year-old Isaiah Firebrace ,who won the 8th season of "X-Factor Australia" on his birthday last year, will try to reach a position which will be as glorious as Dami Im's was.
His debut single It's gotta be you not only became famous in Australia (26th position in Australian Charts), no, furthermore he placed in  good positions in Sweden, Denmark, Slovakia, Czech Republic and The Netherlands.
He said that he will make Australia proud but can he reach this project?

Powerballad in a typical British/Australian style:

His song Don't come easy was written from the same team who composed Sound of silence from Dami Im last year. In addition with this it is not suprising that both songs get similarities.
The first moments of the song reminds me a bit on Hello from Adele but in a good way.
They focused on his biggest power, his voice. It is his voice with his own power which can bribe and captivate the viewer in the whole course of time.
The song is written in a way how most of the Eurovision fans like a ballad. It has to be powerfull with a long note in the Bridge before the last Chorus starts and that is how you get the attention of the viewers!
The quality of the song is as good as Dami Im's was last year and it is this typical British/Australian style of a ballad who let stay the song in your mind.
In which the harmony between singer and song is not perfectly at all but more on that in the last part...

The conclusion:

Firstly I have to mention that Australia is the Eurovision country with the highest exspectations before the competition starts. The euphoria for Eurovision is in Australia very big and that is why they are sending such a popular act. Additionally I have to say that the show starts at 5:00 AM in the morning and the show was watched by ca. 7.5 Million Australians last year! One word: Amazing!
On the other hand the exspectations on the singer and the song are very high and both components was choosen very well this year but there is a negative aspect I would like to add...
Isaiah sounds like he was born for this song. You only see this young guy, who is actually younger than me, and you exspect something very cute and calm but then, BAAM, a powerfull voice starts to sing and that is what I like, the suprise! Anyway, there is something nescessary what, for me, definitly missed: A connection (/harmony) between singer and song! The presentation is powerfull and amazing and so on but I did not fell what he is singing about?! Everything is perfect but it sounds to willed and forced!
We all are knowinh that they will compete in the Grand Final and do very well because juries will vote on this a lot because of the musical perfection but if the viewer will not notice a connection or feel what he is singing about, then he might forgets it very fast. To put it in a nutshell I think that Australia will finish in the Top 5 but if he will not bring the song to life, he will get problems but probably this is because of the video... Good luck Australia!
