Running on air - Weightless in the final?
Good old times with an internal selection:
Austria manged to get through the final 3 years in a row but are they able to do it a 4th time?
They decided that Nathan Trent, whose real name is Nathanaele Koll, should represent the "Alpine Republic". He was actually one of the 33 candidates who fight for the German ticket but withdrew if it was clear that he is representing Austria. Last time when they have done an internaol selection, they won the competition back in 2014 but honestly you have to say that there are a lot of differences between Conchita and Nathan.
But the deciding question is: How good is his song because that is what is nescessary?!

Relaxed and authentic, a dangerous combination!:
First of all I have to say that Running on air is a very special song because you have to like the kind of music to feel his message.
But step by step. The beginning is not showen in a flooring way, no, a warm beat but nothing is overloaded. Everything is on the right position which makes it easy to follow the song. You have not to be a philosopher to know that this song is a typical radio number because of its mixture between calm and simple lyrics. The whole time is very authentic because Trent and his song work very well together because he does not look like a "hard party guy" too, if you know what I mean. It seems that he is the right key for the keyhole.
On the one hand I like the style but on the other hand I am a bit disappointed about his Bridge before the last Chorus starts because these high last note is nothing special. Well, he can show a bit of the power of his voice but that could not be everything?!
Why the did not work with something unique like the whole song is?! For example: change the rhythym in the end and let a storm comming through the presentation ;-)

Running on air sounds a bit like jumping from cloud to cloud on a lovely sunny afternoon.
The way how the song is written reminds me a lot on In love for a while from Anna Rosinelli (Switzerland 2011). These song was also performed in a "calm" style without any impressive moments. Well, she changed volume how to sing the Bridge too into a louder ones' but all in all the style sounds very similar and, open your ears, she reached the final!
I think they might perform the song on a light stage without any strenuous light changes and probably, or hopefully, the performance will get its focus on him because he, in his wayto perform, is the star!
Anyway, I get problem about where to rank the song. Obviously it is a godd hit for radio but all in all the song is too low for Eurovision! Yes, he looks lovely and the song is so cute but I cannot go over these last bridge onto the side where the really good songs are. One positive point is, and there cannot be a fightable reason, that the style makes the song special and maybe it is a reason to stay in the minds of the viewers!
I think he will have a hard fight in the Semis' but maybe they can reach the final for a 4th time in a row because in addition with this I have to mention that Switzerland and Germany can vote in their Semi-Final and a few points from the neighbors can help as well!
